The goal of SPY is to help kids learn and grow academically, socially, and emotionally by providing them with the resources and support they need to succeed. We offer our program free of charge because we are committed to ensuring all children in our community are given an opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential. Whether through academic activities, nurturing relationships, or unique experiences to expand their horizons and spark joy, SPY is dedicated to promoting a child’s well-being and the future of their dreams.
For ParentsSPY was founded in 1986 as an outreach mission of St. John’s Episcopal Church. Since then, with the support of the United Way and community partnerships, and in response to growing needs, what was once just a summer camp, has evolved and expanded into a year-round experience. SPY is an independent 501©(3), but we are best defined as a network of supportive partnerships working together to help ensure all children have the chance to grow and thrive.
SPY is a…
…are valued and bring passion and purpose to all that we do.
In June, nearly 200 elementary-aged students, referred to the program by their school counselor, start their SPY experience. For 6 weeks over the summer and on various days throughout the school year, these children are engaged in academic activities and thrive under the care and encouragement of supportive adults. Weekly visits to the pool, library and other fields trips add excitement to the schedule. A healthy breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack are included and daily transportation is provided from Mount Holly to help ensure our program is accessible for all children in need. A strong emphasis is placed on positive relationships and after spending a year together, SPY campers are family.
But our SPY family isn’t just made up of the campers who attend. It includes our compassionate teachers and counselors, over 100 dedicated volunteers, the churches, and their membership, who graciously offer space and resources, and all those who make generous contributions to ensure children have an equal chance to thrive. We are all part of a community where belonging matters. Belonging to SPY is an opportunity to truly make a difference.
Get InvolvedSPY is committed to ensuring all children have an opportunity to grow and thrive. We understand that many families may face challenges when it comes to paying for out-of-school time programs that enrich a child’s life and help them succeed. SPY programs are offered at no cost to make sure those that need them the most are able to attend.
It is through the support and sponsorship of dedicated individuals and generous organizations that SPY is possible. These partnerships provide the critical funding needed to offer an innovate, enriching and impactful experience to children that otherwise would be left behind. We are a United Way partner agency and are grateful for the many foundations, churches, civic organizations and individual donors that share our passion and help advance the future of our community.
